I am a recent college graduate who specializes in classical saxophone, but has experience in all genres including jazz and rock. I have taught private lessons for several years, and my students have achieved the highest honors at regional and state festivals. Recently, I performed as featured soloist with the Minot Symphony Orchestra, playing Jaques Ibert's Concertino da Camera. During my collegiate career I traveled and performed internationally, and sought out opportunities to study under some of the world's most renowned saxophonists, including Eugene Rousseau, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, and Otis Murphy. Since graduation, I was the director of jazz at Valor Voyager Academy, working in conjunction with Jazz Empowers, a nonprofit that installs and maintains jazz bands as an after school activity for schools with no music program. My efforts since my engagement at Valor Voyager have been centered around performing, and; though fruitful, I feel that I am at my best when I am teaching. I truly hope that I can assist any student in realizing any goal set in front of them. Read More

Above all else, music is supposed to be fun. I want my students to be excited about learning new things each week. Music is also a collaborative practice, so I think it is important for the student and the teacher to play together in a supportive environment to help reaffirm the week's lesson. I understand that each student is different, and weekly assignments will be given accordingly. This will require a reasonable weekly goal so that students can see their progress and feel good about their accomplishments, inspiring them to continue playing and learning. My teaching experience dates back to when I was 16 years old and started teaching students from the church that I played piano at. I've been teaching full time since I was 25 years old, and I love teaching. I believe students progress faster when they are learning to play their favorite songs, and are having fun with learning to play the piano. I also encourage students to learn to improvise and compose their own music by teaching them composition, harmony, rhythm, and practicing to backing tracks. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons for about eight years. My experience teaching in different classrooms helps me work with a large variety of students with just as much variety of skill levels. The most important part of music is connecting with the pieces you play. I provide students with the opportunity to influence certain parts of repertoire that they learn. They may pick a few pieces or songs while I help them build the skills they need to attain for advancement. Read More

No matter the age of the student, I believe in project-based learning: I help my them write songs, make arrangements, record albums, and prepare for recitals. They will develop a respect for the craft of making music, the more creatively involved they are. A list of a couple highly recommended instruction books is given to each student on their first day. This is to help them grasp the basic language of their instrument. Read More
