I approach teaching with prepared lesson plans and observations. The student can expect a holistic method of teaching. Therefore I treat each student as an individual learner with his/her own personality and interests. I progress through lessons at the student's pace, sequentially, and stress the connection between practice and performance. I work with each student to care for their technique and try to demonstrate connections between the music and what they already know. Read More

My approach to teaching can be different based on the age and level of the student. In general I like to keep the pressure off my students and above all find ways to make learning fun and enjoyable. My ideal lesson is one that the student will remember, whether it's a concept we talk about or a song that we learn. I try and teach my students more than how to play notes on a page and to learn songs, but how to discover and tackle projects themselves that otherwise might seem too big a challenge. Read More

As part of my graduate and undergraduate studies I regularly taught both locally and abroad to students of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. I have also maintained a steady private studio, teaching individual lessons to students for over five years. My teaching style has a strong emphasis on developing and maintaining engagement and excitement with the subject. I believe that a positive attitude is essential to a student’s growth and it is my responsibility as a teacher to develop that attitude. Read More

As a composer and performer myself, I understand the benefits of consistent and productive regular practice. I have studied the classical canon, contemporary classical music, jazz, and popular styles, and performed them all in halls and clubs throughout the Northeast and the world. I have found the best way to motivate students is to partner with them to define their individual goals for each lesson. When they are excited to be working toward a goal that is meaningful for them, they will rapidly make progress! Read More

I started teaching music in college through my babysitting network. When the mothers and fathers of the children I cared for found out that I played piano and woodwinds, many of them asked if I would also give their kids private lessons. Having a knack with kids and with music, my music teaching practice quickly blossomed in that small town. I have found that while it's important to keep kids sharp in their ability to read music on the page, it is at least as important to engage their creativity off the page. Read More

I love to see my students progress and see how excited they are about what they have learned. I do love my beginner students because they see how music can be so much fun. What I do enjoy is after they have learned the basics of the piano I can finally teach them that song they love so much that probably got them to learn the piano in the first place. Read More

My background in classical piano gives me a strong foundation for successful piano education. I refer to the classic Russian method of piano technique and provide the student with confidence in sight reading as well as a strong understanding of music theory. My students have ranged from ages 5 to 65! I work at the student's pace, am generous with my time, provide a fun and relaxed learning atmosphere, and makes sure each person walks away from his or her lesson feeling inspired. Read More
