Set a specific time every day/week. Make sure the student doesn't eats a hour before the lesson. Put on your mind to "receive" mode and that there aren't any distractions in the room. If a section of a piece is problematic then we would work on that part first. A metronome can be helpful when practicing. If possible, internally sing the part you are playing. These give a good foundation and progression and have easy to read fingering charts. Once a student gets going with these I introduce simple duet books so that, by playing with me, they develop a strong sense of tone and intonation. Intermediate students work make good sound use bow slow and faster, contact bow differently and vibrato. To get better Vibrato work very slow vibrato to faster.
