I have enjoyed teaching both private and group music classes for over 15 years. I teach piano and violin . I teach a range of music styles from classical to folk to Mariachi Music. I received my degree from Loyola Marymount University. I have been a member of the Junior Philharmonic, Orchestra of California, Loyola Marymount University Orchestra and Beach Cities Symphony. I currently co-conduct the youth group Mariachi Alma Juvenil. I really enjoyed teaching students and seeing them progress from a novice to an intermediate to an advanced student. Read More

I've found that being flexible and adaptible is most important to me, as everyone learns in a different way. I place a lot of importance on following student interest and goals as well, since it doesn't matter how great your instruction is if you're bored and don't want to keep playing. I think every student should get as much out of their lesson experience as they want, whether that means a more casual experience where you're not practicing too much throughout the week, or holding my student more accountable if they express more ambitious goals. I encourage students to learn and work on music they are passionate about. I expect students to practice regularly to the best of their ability. I am patient and tailor each lesson to the student’s skill and comprehension level. I work with students to help them establish good practicing habits. To me it is most important that the student is having fun while learning; therefore, as a part of regular instruction time we play games to learn and review material, skills, and performance techniques. My Methods: Fundamentals of breath work - incorporating several physical exercises and methods of showing the coordination until it is ingrained Focus on the use of the resonators - projecting the sound to the different cavities where sound resonates before leaving your body and into the room (i.e. 'the mask', mouth resonance, chest resonance, etc) Reducing tongue tension - a common issue is root of the tongue tension and I have several exercises to address this Improving range - most of my students gain notes in their belt range and their head range, and often in their low range as well Increasing the legato vocal line - here we focus on linking the vowels properly supported by the breath Jaw tension - similar to tongue we have evercises for this Style - different approaches such as riffing, back phrasing, using a glottal attack, using a breathy attack - creating colorful expressive phrases that link to the emotion of the song and the style desired Musicality - learning to read music, counting tempo, sustaining pitch, syncopation, dynamics, etc Diction - correct vowel shapes and enunciation + awareness of when tension closes down the vocal line if diction is carried over from speaking habits Performance - using tools from acting training to perform a song effectively and believably Career consultation - when appropriate, also offered Read More

I find that the most effective method with beginners is to color code things in a way that makes sense. I have stickers for this and a chart of what each means. Music is similar to math, and once the student can make proper associations in their head when looking at music or playing an instrument, the rest becomes easier. I typically will have them give me a song they want to learn and make it my goal to teach it to them by the end of the first six months. Read More

For beginning drums students, I typically star with a simple beat that the student feels good about. From then, we start learning important concepts as dynamics, tempo, intensity, groove,... Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, we can take a look into learning specific songs that he/she likes, reading, new styles/approcahes, preparation for a recording, composition,... Always keeping the lessons motiviating and fun, no matter the level. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
