I began teaching in the music performance/ production field in 2010, while away at Morgan State University in Baltimore Maryland. I started teaching production to middle school students first, using my laptop, audio interface, and midi keyboard. What surprised me the most was that the students wanted to play the keyboard more than record their voices, so with that being the case, my journey as a piano teacher began. I began my teaching journey at my local church and later expanded to formal private lessons at home. One of the key challenges I faced was teaching piano to children as young as five years old. However, seeing how quickly they could assimilate music at such an early age has been incredibly rewarding. It is rewarding to me to see a student learn a new concept and watch as they realize when that musical thought makes sense! I want every student of mine to feel comfortable asking questions when something does not make sense and I am always prepared to explain a concept in various ways so that all learning styles can understand.
