Im a very engaging and passionate teacher who comes from a long line of musicians and educators. In 2008 I received my undergraduate degree in music with a concentration in musical theater. I then took a year to work in the industry at several regional musical theater and opera houses domestically and internationally. I like to be flexible to the students needs and learning style. Ive used many method books often going off what the student is already working on for band or in school. If the student is more advanced I will assign method books such as the Arbans, Clarke, and Charlier books. I also like to incorporate music the student is interested in and wants to learn. I use different methods for each student based on age and experience. I don't believe that there is one method which is successful with every student. Through the years I have used teaching methods written by Aaron, Thompson,Schaum, Fletcher and others. My first priority is to get the students to read music proficiently. My teaching experience began when I was in my undergraduate program, as I began teaching private and group lessons at a local Performing Arts Center. I encourage my students to establish a consistent practice schedule in addition to their lessons, as it offers paramount support to the material being studied, reinforces and conditions the instruments, and greatly contributes to the progress of the student. I find that it does not matter which style of singing you would like to learn or how you would like to use your voice, breathing and breath work are an essential foundation to wonderful music making. I pay special attention to the students' reactions and guide them from there because passion for the instrument is the top priority, and is the fuel to keep a musician going whether it is for a career or a hobby. I start by giving the student trivial assignments, but will quickly ramp it up to find their limits.
