Drum for 2 students (one student was blind).   Performance - accompanying choirs and church (acoustic piano), marching band (trumpet and percussion), worship bands (acoustic drum set and synth), and orchestra (timpani and bells). I taught myself the trumpet and achieved first chair within the first 6 months of playing (our marching band performed in Canada to California besides many places in Washington). Haeyoon is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music where she received Masters degree with a full scholarship under the Performance 20/20 program, a prestigious chamber-intensive program. She began her chamber studies soon after starting cello with her siblings and have performed in community events and ceremonies since. She is a winner of many competitions, including: the Regional Solo Ensemble Competition at the high school level, a series of first prizes at the Renton Young Artists Competition, the Marjorie Easley National Strings Competition, and the Individualis International Competition. The dedication it takes to learn an instrument can help develop skills values that will benefit the student throughout life, regardless of profession. Therefore, I believe that the process of learning music is more important than any particular performance that we work toward, so I take a pragmatic approach to instruction. Of course, we look forward to recitals and concerts, because they give our rehearsals direction, but it should also be emphasized that our most rewarding musical experiences may happen in lessons or private practice. A student (whatever age) must be comfortable with their teacher, especially when working on Skype or Zoom. From the beginning I always teach a natural technique, to create an easy atmosphere so that a student will feel at ease about asking any questions that may arise. It is so exciting to see young children suddenly playing with more agility, (5 finger exercises and chords helps) that we often smile together and will look back to see how much one has moved forward. My main focus is trying to teach students HOW to learn music, so that they can eventually create their own methodology based on what works best for them. I have eight years of experience teaching private lessons, so I understand how to craft a curriculum to an individual's needs. Working with hundreds of different musicians has taught me that everyone learns music differently: some through sight reading, others with audio recordings, others still by watching someone else do it first.  We can work on specific topics during our lessons, but I can also give you a bunch of things to review/work on during your own time.
