I began teaching private lessons 9 yeras ago when some neighborhood friends encouraged me to share my love of music through teaching. Encouraging regular, consistent practice and keeping a journal of areas of focus during practice is one of the techniques I encourage for students of all ages to progress and grow in their enjoyment of the instrument. I love encouraging students to compose their own material, and to share their music in competitions and recitals, as a way to develop their passion for music and to stay motivated to learn. I make journal entries at every lesson to record what was covered. I encourage students to participate in recitals and can make arrangements for them to perform, as I beieve that public performance is an important milestone in their musical education. I like to start out teaching using Alfred's beginner books, and progress from there. Each student learns at a different pace, so I base my lessons off of their progress. For young beginning students most of the time I like to use John Thompson's ''Easiest piano course'' as a practicing book,for their hands position and finger velocity I use ''A Dozen a Day'' and also I introduce them to music notation,spelling and writing with various Theory books . For older and adult beginners I choose different books. For those who are beginning on their horns, I will be using the Essential Elements book. Within this books starts off with the basic whole notes and half notes than moves to quarter notes. Every other page adds a new note to their repertoire. For those who have been on their horns, I will be using the 2nd/3rd Essential Elements book. Those who have no trouble with those books, I will be introducing them to solo works and adding some theory in there for they can understand the basics of music and what comes with it. Read More
