I will start with basic books that teach you the bare fundamentals of music, the notes, fingering, etc. If you already know the basics we will go into a more advanced teaching plan. Depending on your skill level and what you want to accomplish in terms of style and technique I will base my lesson plan accordingly. I will base what I teach you according to your musical influences, passions, styles you want to learn, and who you would like to become as a musician overall. Read More

The foundation of my teaching is based on listening, which sounds simple. But, it's not always easy! The awareness needed to listen mindfully will set the foundation to enable students to make informed musical decisions on their own. Additionally, practicing is an art form in and of itself, and it's much more than playing pieces over and over again. Practicing efficiently requires listening, of course, and problems solving skills. In addition to presenting the fundamental skills of music making, I address the aspects needed to make informed decisions. Read More

For piano, I like the Piano Adventures Method by Faber but have also used Alfred and Bastien. I am very focused on a relaxed and precise technique, including proper rotation, articulation, flexibility, and strength, as well as teaching the ability to play without looking at the keys. For voice, I work to build a solid technique based on individual need and interest and choose songs accordingly. Proper breathing and body awareness, utilizing Alexander and Feldenkrais methods, as well as understanding of vowel and consonant articulation and of the intimate relationship between text and music is also essential. I first want to get to know the parent's expectations and their goals for student lessons. I want the student to look forward to their lesson and end the lesson knowing what to work on and how to progress. The student leaves the lessons with a smile on their face. I want the student to enjoy the lesson and I use games to reinforce concepts - "off the bench" lessons I call the games. Read More
