Throughout the rest of my schooling I served in some sort of volunteer tutor capacity, helping classmates and younger students. It is important for me to understand what the student does not understand. The only help I may ask for is to make sure that practice does happen. I seldom ever say that practice should be timed, i.e. sit at the piano for 30 minutes no matter what. Instead, I assign a particlar song a certain number of times. At first, practice would probably take no more than 10 minutes. That time increases as the songs increase in difficulty, within reason. Read More

For all of my piano students, I use Nancy and Randall Faber's Piano Adventures. Students ages 3-5 use the My First Piano Adventure series, which moves at a slightly slower pace and contains more parent/teacher activities. Students ages 6-12 (where most of my students are) use the standard Piano Adventures progression.
