As the student progresses with either instrument, I try to encourage them to continue with scales and to move up in their playing abilities and music reading. I also encourage performances and for those, I let students choose works (classical, romantic, contemporary, jazz, or pop) based on skill level and personal interest. After graduation in 1991 I had my first vocal student in my home. In 1995 is when I had my first experience teaching in a music store environment.
