At a young age of 14, Gorjana, was already as one of the youngest freshmen in the history of the Academy of Music Art, University of Arts, Belgrade, Serbia. She graduated shortly after turning 18, and was awarded a diploma by the Academia, distinguishing her as the most successful undergraduate students of her generation. She has won 13 national and 9 international piano competitions and played  as a soloist and chamber musician in various European countries, as well as in all major concert halls in Serbia and Montenegro.            In 2005, Gorjana earned the Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, in the studio of Professor Barry Snyder. For three years I was a camp counselor in the La Honda Music Camp (Hayward, CA). As a counselor, I looked after 10-12 middle school-aged girls, oversaw brass sectionals, coached trombone, and assisted in the junior wind ensemble. In high school I used to coach my classmates in the trombone section. In my grad school years I began to teach beginning piano and trombone. My hope when teaching music is that the kids have a lot of fun learning their instrument, so I always encourage them to learn songs they'd like to sing/play along to. Read More

I teach traditional music theory and sight reading focusing on reading music and learning musical vocabulary and symbols. My students will learn the fundamentals while also exploring different musical genres, ranging from the classics like Beethoven and Mozart to modern idioms like jazz, pop music, and even musical theater standards. In addition learning repertoire from a wide range of styles, my students also learn the fundamentals of music theory, from rhythm, basic harmony, and intervalic reading to more advanced harmonic and structural analysis. For beginning students who are children, I introduce theory, rhythm, as well as the instrument to give them a basic understanding of all of the aspects of music. Once the students has a basic grasp of the fundamentals, we will learn songs appropriate for their level. For adult students, I try to teach based on their interests, choose appropriate repertoire and help them meet and accomplish their own goals.
