We talk about their favorite styles of music and artists. I am familiar with many different series of method books (Faber, Bastien, Piano Town, Thompson, etc.), but will determine what the student needs based on their age and how much they know about music in general. Some school-aged children may have been exposed to music classes before they come to me. I am happy to hear about any school district that has chosen not to cut music education from its curriculum! I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and have been teaching ever since. I am an active member of the Richardson Music Teachers Association, which affords many musical opportunities for my students.
