I was trained classically in violin in the Suzuki method, took rock/folk-based instruction in guitar, and learned brass and percussion through my high school marching band, which also doubled as a concert ensemble for half of the school year. I started playing when I was 5 years old and was taught through Suzuki format. It teaches students to learn by ear and that really made a difference in my style of playing. I started writing my own compositions at 13 years old and that is what made me want to learn more. All through highschool I continued to play and eventually got a small album together. I began teaching private piano lessons in the fall of 2015. I have taught both adults and children, and have found the experience very rewarding, especially with adult learners. I got my own start in music very late, and was actively discouraged in my youth from pursuing it--so one of my main goals as an educator is to motivate students and encourage them that they can still be performers.
