My first experience teaching someone was when I was younger in my high school days, I was teaching my 7 year old nephew how to play ukulele which was an arduous task indeed. But through said trails and tribulations we managed to accomplish our goals together. Currently Im teaching guitar at the fine arts academy and I am teaching one student consistently while also substituting occasionally. I took private piano lessons for over 10 years ever since I was a kid, and I have learned a lot from my teacher, not only about piano techniques and methods, but also of how to interact with and teach different people of different ages. I am a multi-instrumentalist, having played piano (classical and pop/rock/blues and more) for 25 years, guitar and vocals for 17 years, and various other instruments including mandolin, banjo, blues and folk harmonica, bass guitar, 12-string guitar for over 10 years. I studied music and theory since age 5 all the way through the university level. I have taught professionally starting in 2014. I also compose songs, and love playing out. Throughout the process, I also integrate tidbits of music theory and history to give the student a more well-rounded experience.  As for guitar and piano, I normally take a more custom approach to teaching that tends to not revolve around any specific method book. However, I typically teach beginning pianists and guitarists how to read through and play simple pieces of music so that they understand the fundamentals before moving on to a mix of songs or pieces that I select and songs or pieces that the student wishes to play so as to keep things fresh and exciting.  Read More

I believe in creating a custom lesson plan for my students. This is important for any age! Students (young and old) need to have something to work towards. I enjoy allowing student to pick what types of music they want to learn how to play and incorporating that music into their lesson plans. I will typically use a whiteboard to teach student how to read music and make the lesson interactive, and adjust the lesson to fit the learning level they are at. Read More
