For my younger, early elementary piano students, I use the Bastien Piano Basics.  For my older school-aged students, I typically use the Faber Piano Adventures series, usually starting off with the acclerated book for the older students.  For adults and some of my high school students, I use the Alfred Adult series.  All age levels will be taught music theory in conjunction with the regular music lesson, which gives them a deeper understanding of the music that they are learning! My band students will be taught based on what method book their director is using, whether it be Essential Elements, Standard of Excellence, etc.  Their lessons may be expanded upon by providing duets or solos for them to play.  I also encourage the older students to learn their scales and possibly audition for All-Sate Band if so desired.  All of my band students that have been playing for a least a year are encouraged to participate in an annual spring music recital.

My method of teaching is designed with each individual student in mind. At first I like for students to establish their personal learning goals and objectives. Then, I design a plan that will help them meet those goals and objectives that are based on their own interests. I use Alfred’s Basic Piano series as the core fundamentals of my teaching. I then supplement that with hand coordination and technique exercises, as well as song selections that allow the student to incorporate the new skills that have been taught. I also select solo repertoire pieces for each student based on their skill level. My teaching method is similar for adults. Adult students also identify their goal and I create a plan to help them achieve it whether it be learning to read music, to play by ear, or simply to play their favorite songs. All students will have the opportunity to showcase their talent during seasonal recitals.

My teaching studio is equipped with two drums sets and practice pads to accommodate marching or drum set students.   I also have a full PA and two keyboards set up for piano students and accompanying purposes.  Each student is given an assignment for the week (or specified time) and will then pass off this lesson assignment (barrier) before receiving a new lesson.  Passing off not only includes demonstration of the lesson but also performing with me as I accompany them on the keyboards.  Each student progresses differently, so each will be encouraged and assisted while demonstrating each lesson task.

I've been teaching piano for over ten years, and my students have gone on to make piano a life-long hobby, play in recitals and at church, or just enjoy playing for friends and family. My objective as a music educator is to instill in students a lifelong passion for music. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic melodies and as time goes on you'll begin to play your favorite tunes comfortably. I love working with students of all ages and levels, and I can't wait to meet you!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
