I put a lot of energy into my teaching! Providing positive feedback and encouragement is most important. Also, giving students practical ways to improve their playing and meet their perfomance goals is crucial. One of the great benefits for a young person learning a musical instrument in the experience of challening and overcoming their percieved limitations. I feel it is my job to guide my students on this adventure. Because of my many years of experience teaching PK-6 general music, I am able to adapt my style to every age group & ability level. Letting in failure creates room for failure. That's not to say mistakes are bad; quite the opposite! Mistakes are part of life, and a big part of learning anything new, especially a new skill. If there's a mistake that can be made in music, I've made it. As upset or frustrated as I may have been at the time, I know these personal failures are part of the process, and I use them as much as I can to instill hope and determination in my students. For beginners, on piano I def reccomend Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Also, "My Favorite Solo Album," by Max Eckstein. Once progression and consistency has been developed I always encourage my students to share what they have learned in to a recital performance. I always make sure to teach what the student is interested in no matter what their ability is because with practice and a good student mentality my tudents achieve their goals quicker than usual. At that age, it's all about their goals, since the students are self-sufficient and able to decide what's best for their goals on their own. As far as method books go, I like Hal Leonard's Essential Elements (I've used those methods a lot when teaching middle school band) for young students, Hanon's exercises and Bela Bartok's Mikrokosmos for intermediate piano, and trips to Guitar Center for adult guitarists (I'm serious: John Petrucci has a great method for Rock Guitar, for example). There are so many methods to use. I started off in the church as a worship leader, piano player, and a drummer. I believe in learning to read music and playing by ear. It is a reason why I teach both. Ear training is good for a lot of churches if you decide to play or sing in one. Not all churches use hymn books but some do so that's why I teach site reading as well. Read More

I make lessons fun, but also structured instilling an important tool as a musician which is discipline. My students can expect to increase their confidence, their tone, intonation, music education, extend their range, improvise, as well as transpose songs to fit their style of voice. I’m excited to create beautiful and lasting memories though the art of music and look forward to meeting and teaching you or your child! Read More
