Currently, my teaching experience involves substituting for a drum class in one of the New York City boroughs, and assisting musicians or other campers when needed at Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts when I worked there as a Music Staff Intern. I have worked with multiple teachers throughout my musical journey and experience, and I have since picked up the teaching styles and methods that they taught me. I do believe in the fundamentals of music and ultimately, no matter what you hear, learning music is not re-inventing the wheel. There is technique, reading music and understanding the basics of how the particular instrument works. I like the Essential Elements for Guitar or bass for guitarists and bassists and Alfred's Piano method books. Ted Reed's Guide to Syncopation is a good drum book. I love to listen and play music very much, so I try to encourage independence in my students so that they can play what they enjoy and love. I encourage them to listen to how they play by playback recordings, humming to the tunes using their voice even when playing an instrument, so that they can listen and feel their own music.
