I like to encourage my students to look back on all they have accomplished and to set goals so that they are motivated to keep moving forward. Once students have developed the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in. I will then guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun no matter their ability level.
