I love working with kids and see them have an interest to learn more about music! I am 19 years old and have been learning classical piano for 13 years now. I have taken ABRSM London School of Music exams and continued to showcase my skills in school, shows, and gigs. I also played piano for the choir and band in high school and that taught me how to perform with a group and not just myself. Read More

If a student comes in as a beginner, I will teach them the notes first, then reading on the staff and chords. I try to encourage everyone to learn how to read music, but certain students prefer to learn pieces quicker, in which case I can speed up the process by telling them the notes to play. I constantly ask the students for the piece that they want to play themselves and I encourage them to try them even if they feel like it appears too difficult. Read More

Students who are young beginners, I like to start with Hal Leonard's My First Piano. It's written for ages 5 and 6 full of excitement and imagination. Once the student has completed the C level of this book, or if I feel as though they are ready for the next level sooner than expected, we will move on to solo repertoire. Even tho this text is written for young children, I still like to utilize some of the rhythm games for my older students as well. Read More

My style is encouraging, easy-going, patient and understanding. I explain things as many times as necessary in a calm friendly manner since I know students (and all the rest of us) don't remember stuff the first time it is heard—or played—or read. I encourage questions and discussions about practicing, repertoire, performing, and careers. To be sure time is well spent, I'll sometimes say, "Practice this piece just as you would if I were not here." This way I can offer suggestions for learning pieces and methods more quickly. Practice time should be a joyful time, full of a sense of accomplishment, and I am especially keen to help make this so for all students. Read More

Student-teacher relationship is one of the most important aspects to my teaching style. It is very important that students feel safe and welcome in their learning environment, so I keep lessons relaxed yet on target with our goals. I believe that every student learns at his own pace, and I try to gauge that with realistic goals per lesson, per semester, and per year. I like to vary activities in lessons according to my student's preference. Read More

I've been teaching piano to students of all ages as my sole profession since 2002. I usually have between 20 and 25 students at a time. I have also earned certification through the Music Teachers National Association through a combination of testing and proofs of competency. I keep up to date professionally through my memberships in Lancaster Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and in my role as the Center Coordinator for the Music Development Program. Most of all though, I've learned from my students, who are always the best teachers. The part I love best about my job is that I get to cater the curriculum to each student individually. Each student can have their own "best assignment". Read More
