For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with Faber and Faber methods and performance books. I supplement with other solo materials as the student progresses. For beginning adult piano students, I use Alfred's Adult PIano Method. For the more advanced students, music is typically chosen from a variety of sources, so that the student is playing music that is challenging and enjoyable. I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency. For all of my students of any age, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and learning a recognizable song hand picked by the student and approved by me. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce jazz repertoire, sight reading and things like, technical exercises, jazz improvisation, theory, ear training and classical music etudes.
