Jacob began his musical fruition at the age of 8 years old, after being inspired by listening to Rock N Roll and being surrounded by a family of musicians. He later went on to perform with cover bands in an array of musical academies across venues in New York and New Jersey; most notably The Cutting Room, McLoones Supper Club, The Stone Pony, House of Independence, and many more. I believe the number one rule of playing music is to have fun. Stressing this frequently with my students to remind them to not get frustrated with themselves if they run into any challenges with learning their instrument is a part of my teaching style. One of the many motivational sayings I tell them is, "Nothing in music is hard, it's just unfamiliar." I moved to San Francisco California in 1969 and spent the next fourteen years playing, touring and recording with such diverse musical luminaries as Boz Scaggs, Otis Rush, Doug Samms, Jessica Williams, Sonny Fortune, Dexter Gordon and Art Blakey. For Beginning students or kids from 3 years old, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and also some other theory to help them to read the notes on staff. Once Student slightly progressed, I will begin to start shop pieces with another finger technique etude, to building stronger and solid finger and also I would recommend some music repertories to listen to it, just for building music expression. For the Adult or Teenager, I would like to know what kind of music brings them here, and we can set that piece what they eventually want to play as a goal, and helping student build and practice the technique.
