I have taught music classes (choir, music theory, hand bells, recorders, and general music) for Kindergarten-10th grade for seven years, and I have taught private music lessons for over 10 years. I have taught students as young as five years old, and I've had students well into their retirement years as well. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Faber collection (Piano basic adventures) or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I encourage my students to practice and do the homework, but what is truly important also is that they enjoy and feel the love for learning music.
