I have the most experience teaching young students (about 7 years old) who have had no experience or instruction in music. In such a case, I start with the fundamentals of music (how to read music), theory, and keyboard skills. I looked at their faces and nothing brought more joy to my heart that knowing that those kids found passion in music; the same way I did when I was younger. There are different publishers that I use. Depending on the age, personality, age and interests of the students. It can vary; either Bastien, John Thompson, Alfred Publishing, Hal Leonard or any other I find appropriate. In a beginners face I explain notation values, names, posture and what affects their learning. Depending on the age of the student I decide if the material is suitable for their capacity of learning.
