Hi! My name is Megan, and I have a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Choral Conducting from Andrews University. Before that, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Voice Performance from Southern Adventist University. Performing has been a joy of mine, and I've had the opportunity to perform with some amazing groups, such as Andrews University Singers and Southern Adventist University's I Cantori. Most recently, I had the privilege of presenting Gustav Mahler's "Kindertotenlieder" song cycle at the Howard Performing Arts Center in Berrien Springs. Read More

I love seeing students enjoy their music lessons! I typically begin the lesson asking the student how their practice went for them, allowing them to communicate their successes and struggles from the previous week's practice. We then set some attainable goals for the lesson, and the student then shows off whatever they worked on that week. I've found that in an effective lesson, the student spends 50% of the lesson or more actually playing the instrument, rather than spending the whole time listening to instruction. Read More

If, at some point, some smaller goal materializes, on we go. If you are the type who craves a lot of pressure from a teacher, I am more than capable of piling that on for you; just don't count on me to be "upset" at you for not practicing, since years of experience have told me that this does practically nothing good for anyone involved. I do not consider it my job to motivate you to be interested in music. Read More

Instruments: Trombone, Music
I taught my first trombone lessons when I was still in high school, and I've always felt a strong connection to teaching (my parents are teachers too). When I was getting my masters, I began teaching beginning brass classes at local elementary schools, and this expanded into several elementary band classes upon graduation. I also maintained a studio of trombone students. I'm currently a lecturer at the University of Miami and teach music theory students ages 7-18 for a community arts program. Read More
