Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Choosing appropriate repertoire that appeals to the students and helps to address technical deficiencies, as well as showcases their natural gifts, is of utmost importance. I tailor my methods to suit my students' unique musical needs and goals and adjust them overtime as the students' abilities grow. For beginners, we will work to develop a strong foundation in the basics of music such as instrument layouts, basic stick and mallet control, sheet music and rhythm reading, and playing in time. I believe the number one rule of playing music is to have fun. Stressing this frequently with my students to remind them to not get frustrated with themselves if they run into any challenges with learning their instrument is a part of my teaching style. One of the many motivational sayings I tell them is, "Nothing in music is hard, it's just unfamiliar." I lean heavily on what they're interested in, if they have any favorite artists or songs and I also balance that with artists and songs that are some of my favorites. Read More

At times, some exercises are assigned for homework if it was not completed in class during the assigned time. For Piano, I start with warm-ups using simple finger exercises to learn fingering and improve muscles, flexibility and hand dexterity. These are implemented by using the study of scales, varied finger technique exercises from books like Dozen a Day and Hannon and or by rote (demonstrated by teacher and student visually attend and imitate). I use the method created by Adolf Herseth (Principle trumpeter in the Chicago Symphony for 50 years). I learned this method from William Fielder at Rutgers. This concept is based on using air as the primary energy source for producing sound. We will work on strengthening the breathing apparatus to be able to produce a pure clear tone that is without distortion.
