Instruments: Voice
I began teaching youth choirs right after graduating High School. With excellent instruction, I began a more studied teaching approach through my pedigogy class at Central Michigan University. Also, I helped my fellow classmates prepare for their performances. I am beginning to teach privately after continuing my vocal study with a Vocal Coach in the Detroit area. Practice doesn't make perfect, but it does make progress! I ensure that my students continue to sing in the most healthy and easy way for them. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I try to introduce my students to different styles and genres of music. Their repertoire ranges from dances and songs to variations, concertos and sonatas. In order to be able to play such an array of genres, one requires what I like to call a "laboratory of skills". Scales, exercises and studies, played at the beginning of every lesson, are a way to develop the said "laboratory".While working with little kids I try to combine traditional and Suzuki methods. In order to insure that my lessons are both educational and entertaining I make my little students move, dance, clap and sing. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I base my materials depending on who my student is, what level they are at, their interests, and their goals. We will focus on building a proper foundation and every aspect of music making including posture, embouchure, breath support, articulation, phrasing, intonation, performances, and more. Every student will have lessons directly tailored toward their needs. I usually begin with a methods book such as the Rubank Elementary Methods, scales, and a solo matching ability level. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with. Instruments: Guitar Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
My teaching experience dates back approximately five years, and I've taught to students as young as 8 to as old as 20. With all of my students, I tailor my lesson plans to their specific needs. I like to find out why my students want to play guitar, what they want to play, and foster their continuing growth by teaching them what they want to learn. I will never force knowledge upon any student who doesn't want to learn it, or simply won't benefit from it. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
I have taught every semester I have been in college thanks to being a part of the Musicianship and Advancing Pedagogy--MAP--Program in the College of Musical Arts. I taught for the Middle School and High School Band Academy Programs. There, I taught sectional rehearsal for anywhere between 2-14 students for an hour. I was also an assistant at Anthony Wayne's Marching Band, and most previously taught at Van Buren for my methods placement. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I love the drums! Tapping, beating, thumping on everything around the house drove my parents to sign me up for my first drum lesson when I was 10. I've been playing ever since! I studied with Dr. William Albin at Miami Universtiy (Ohio) while in high school as well as with Judy Moonert at Western Michigan University. I was classically trained at WMU (Orchestra, Symphonic Band, etc.) but was very active playing the drumset for the faculty jazz quartet. Read More
