I like teaching private lessons because students learn valuable skills and techniques that will help in every aspect of a student's life. Students learn time management, dedication, and work ethic through taking private lessons and I love watching students grow throughout the process. I find this to be a very good book to help grasp the fundamentals of the instrument for beginning players. I am a hard working guitar performer/teacher. I have been performing since the age of 8 for churches, weddings, concert halls, and competitions. I have been a national competition finalist two times and have been recognized many times for my performances and hard work at FSU. For classical studies, there are some standard saxophone repertoire books I like to go to. For brand new students, I use Essential Elements books, for intermediate students I use Rubank method books, and for advanced students I use the Ferling etude book. For jazz studies, I begin students with Lenny Neihaus' Jazz Conception for Saxophone, which lays a great foundation for jazz and swing playing. It is very easy today to record lessons and send students home with different songs to play along to. Drums are much more fun when you play with other musicians and one way to do that is with recordings. Again there is room for me to bring music to the student, but also room for the student to bring something to me that they want to learn.
