I always want my students to have a very positive experience taking lessons and never to feel as if there is too much pressure put on them. Every student is different so I don't have a specific teaching formula. I always ensure that the student is moving at a comfortable pace for them while still being challenged and learning new things. I am always quick to acknowledge every small bit of progress that they make and focus on the positives rather than the negatives. Read More

My roots go back to marching percussion and drum set when I first started taking lessons and joined the Forest Lake Junior High marching band in 2007. Having not started band until 8th grade, a persistent feeling of being in over my head helped to drive my education and help me overcome challenging situations throughout my career. I first started teaching marching band with the Forest Lake junior high band in 2010 as a junior in high school. Read More

I did a lot of YouTube videos for them. I have helped them with performing opportunities such as at churches and events in Lincoln. I always create a connection between learning and performance so that students can strive for the best results to look toward. I don't hesitate to share my experiences to my students so that they have the opportunity to interact and learn in many music areas besides learning piano and singing such as ear training, theory, composition, using the software to record music, and a bunch of other things. For beginning students in piano, we will work from the Faber Series of books, working on getting comfortable with finding notes, and playing in proper rhythm against a steady beat. For more advanced piano students, we will work from whatever materials the student already has, and work to build their skills in a manner tailored to their individual needs. For beginning violin lessons, we will focus on understanding the fundamentals of controlling the violin and producing the best possible tone on the instrument while teaching students the fundamentals of rhythm and music reading. I prefer to instruct out of the James Bastien method books for the student's main lesson assignments. However, I also encourage students to bring and play out of books that inspire and motivate them individually. This keeps lessons lighthearted and keeps the student interested in the next lesson in my experience. I set realistic weekly and monthly goals for my students so I'm able to gauge how the student has performed, as well as how they should be instructed going forward. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I began teaching during my undergraduates studies in Ithaca, NY, where I taught trumpet-playing brothers for a local family. I was a teaching assistant during both of my graduate degrees, where I enjoyed teaching non-music majors and mentoring my studio mates and colleagues. I'm lucky enough to have studied with some of the world's greatest trumpet players, and it is a joy to be able to pass on all of that cumulative knowledge and wisdom. Read More
