For students who already have the groundwork of the instrument, I typically move forward with whatever they are interested in learning and what would make them feel more accomplished. For beginner students, I typically start them out in the Fast Track Guitar 1 book just to get them comfortable with the instrument, proper technique, basic music theory, etc. Additionally, I always implement scales into the lessons, no matter the age or skill level. The most successful students are the ones who are motivated to learn and improve. Therefore, I work with my students to foster a passion for music performance. Because playing music encompasses many distinct disciplines, I do not simply focus on technical development. I provide my students many avenues to improve their music performance abilities by teaching them about both the science and the art of playing an instrument. To help foster a passion for music I help students establish realistic goals and benchmarks to measure their progress and experience tangible improvement. Read More

Instruments: Drums

For beginning and intermediate students, I offer my own rudiment book to start learning on a practice pad or snare drum. For learning drum set, I use a variety of books and resources. I will meet and discuss these options with each student to find the right book for them. For more advanced students, I have them transcribe entire songs from bands they enjoy. I create Spotify playlists for students so they can easily access a variety of styles of music. Read More

I did a lot of YouTube videos for them. I have helped them with performing opportunities such as at churches and events in Lincoln. I always create a connection between learning and performance so that students can strive for the best results to look toward. I don't hesitate to share my experiences to my students so that they have the opportunity to interact and learn in many music areas besides learning piano and singing such as ear training, theory, composition, using the software to record music, and a bunch of other things. My approach fits with the student and parental desire. Once we know those parameters, we can proceed and make it work in the best way for the students success. I always take time to understand where the student is coming from, their goals, the parent goals. I’ll adjust my style based on how much desire there is, how much time they and what their current goals are for music, drumming and whatever else they’re striving for. Read More

My roots go back to marching percussion and drum set when I first started taking lessons and joined the Forest Lake Junior High marching band in 2007.
