I feel that my job as a teacher is to facilite my students' indivual growth and development as they make their own way along their musical paths in life. My happiness comes from watching my students gain more confidence after reaching goals that they set for themselves in our sessions. It's important to me that everyone feels good about themselves which is why I started a 'Student Spotlight' newsletter to highlight accomplishments such as completing a book or performing with the school orchestra. At Indiana I received both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Piano Performance in only five years, with the Highest Distinction. My experience during these years of music training ultimately shaped my teaching philosophy. To be sure, I received a well-rounded and rigorous music training throughout my formative years. However, a remarkable event at age 16 dramatically broadened my musical horizon and enlightened me with a vision. It was an attendance at a profoundly moving opera performance that ignited my passion for music and led me to discover my own authentic musical voice. Read More

For beginning elementary and middle school students I usually use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once my student has a working knowledge of the fundamentals, I introduce music that will build confidence and keep the student's interest. Although I am using a method book, it is just a guide. Along the way, I may supplement the book with other exercises to work on specific techniques. For adults, I first assess my student's skill level, and we talk about goals and a realistic practice schedule. Read More

My teaching style is very up beat and catered. I like to figure out what people are interested in and try to find ways for them to be able to follow their interests. I like to give small feedbacks when needed but also when they need a push in the correct direction, I will try to be honest and true to them. I love teaching from no experience to experienced. For young beginning students most of the time I like to use John Thompson's ''Easiest piano course'' as a practicing book, for their hands position and finger velocity I use ''A Dozen a Day'' and also I introduce them to music notation, spelling and writing with various Theory books . For older and adult beginners I choose different books. I have my own customized methods to teach different age groups and personalities. The most important thing is that a music lesson should be fun, not a burden. Read More
