I find it important to establish early on what motivates the student, and incorporate that into every lesson in some facet. For young children, I usually choose teaching books that are more fun and give them a basic start with understanding musical symbols by performing tasks in their books. Once students begin to understand how to read and play, I start to introduce the next level of material for them.
