Music Lessons in Saint Mary S City, MD

Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet

I am a recent VCUarts Music graduate. My concentration was jazz saxophone. I have been playing saxophone for over 20 years, but the last four years have been intense, as I was working diligently to complete my music degree. I have been a member of several small jazz ensembles since 2019, and I also served as lead tenor saxophonist in VCU's Jazz Orchestra I for two years. My biggest takeaway from VCU is that I have a genuine love for music, and I am committed to spending the rest of my life learning about it. Read More

It is great to see any individual move towards growing their abilities for self expression. Learning music can bring the best out of many facets of life, and yield a beautiful way to communicate. I see teaching as assisting someone on that path. To me a teacher should help encourage growth and be open to learning as well. Any student I have will be met with a smile and enthusiasm for their interests and goals. Read More

Instruments: Voice

I love singing and I love teaching. I've taught voice off and on since 2002. My studio has included students from EVERY age bracket, ages 6- 70 and I've truly enjoyed each! When not teaching singing, I've taught elementary music preK-8, directed junior high choir and musicals, taught kindergarten and tutored students K through college. I love performing and have been soloist in many classical pieces including Vivaldi's Gloria, Hayden's Little Organ Mass and several works by Mozart. Read More

Instruments: Piano

I've been playing piano since age 7. I started playing with a promise to my parents, they would never have to tell me to practice in turn they brought a piano for. I still have and practice on. I have taken lessons up until College, where I graduated from Bennett College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. I play on a regular basis at the Greater First Baptist Church of Washington DC. Read More

Instruments: Flute

I use the same books and methods that were taught to me. Trevor Wye's books on Tone and Technique form the foundation of learning the flute. A Rhythm A Day is exactly what it says - a different rhythm to practice that the student may encounter in music they play later. I also use daily breathing exercises to work on breath control - the most important part of playing the flute! Read More

For beginning piano students I recommend Alfred, John Thompson, or Piano Adventures books. (If you already have books that you have used on your own r with aother teacher, I am happy to use those as well!) Additionally, I will choose a recital piece applicable to their level that the student will work on for a few weeks/ months at a time to be performed at their first recital performance. Read More
