Instruments: Piano Voice
After finishing school, I began establishing my own studio. In addition to classical piano, I have received two years of collegiate-level vocal instruction. Singing has been a part of my life since a very young age--I believe singing is a wonderful form of musical expression and recommend it to enhance instrumentalists' understanding of phrasing. I also play guitar and have ample experience in contemporary keyboard from church settings. I hope to use all of this experience to provide a rounded music education to my students. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I've been playing piano since I was four years old and my biggest goals for my students are for them to become confident and excited about music, whether they want to join a band, accompany choirs, perform, or just play for fun. I have taught all ages and firmly believe in the lifelong benefits of music lessons. I have experience in several musical venues including accompaniment, solo performance, group performance, church service, and musical theater and play everything from 80's rock standards to classical pieces. Instruments: Trumpet
I have played music since third grade. Soon after starting to study music it became a focal part of what I loved to do. I played and practiced a lot. Since I dedicated so much time to learning this art , I was able to start teaching during high school and find myself still teaching now. It is a wonderful experience to pass on information, skills and experience to students and see them grow and flourish. Read More
Instruments: Flute
I am passionate about the flute and love sharing that with students. I graduated from James Madison University where I studied with Carol Kniebusch Noe, played four years in the JMU Flute Choir and in the JMU Wind Symphony. Later I went on to get a master's degree in Arts Management at City University in London. I continue to play locally with the Vale Flute Choir as well as the local band Rok. Read More
Instruments: Violin Fiddle
If not coming for theory tutoring then I begin with Vidal keyboard harmony practice and then progress with 16th and 18th century counterpoint Composition lessons are based on scores or recordings the composition student brings in that they have written or are interested in. We discuss the composition and the students goals in writing the music and I recommend scores to look at as well as articles, book, and journals that are relevant to the students particular interests. Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar Keyboard Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
I believe the single most important part of a musician's work begins in the ear. Building a foundation in aural training, and understanding what you're hearing, will allow any student to then approach an instrument with clarity and patience. For most students at beginning or intermediate levels, I'll use a dual-curriculum approach to develop ear training/theory understanding alongside technical skill and practical ability. I create my own lesson plans with each student's needs in mind, in order to help them follow their personal path to musical success. Read More
Instruments: Bass Guitar
I initially started teaching electric bass privately during my sophomore year at Goucher College. Since then, I have been teaching for three years. I taught at the Goucher Summer Arts Institute and have continued to participate as a seasonal camp counselor for their jazz camp. While I was studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark through Goucher College, I participated in a Danish music pedagogy program which thoroughly enhanced my love and knowledge of teaching music.
