I typically use the Faber Books for piano, Hal Leonard for guitar and ukulele, and I work in sight-reading with my voice students. Sound is the most important aspect of trumpet playing, and the good thing is you can practice pretty much anything and still focus on your sound. For beginners I usually supplement their beginner band book with some simple drills from Schlossberg's Daily Drills or some I wrote myself. I currently use Piano Adventures Lesson and Theory books for beginner students. I have also used the Alfred series and really like the Finger Power series, too. Fundamentals of music theory is extremely important for new students of any age. I ask students to use the Music Tutor App to help them learn note names for the treble and bass clefs, and they learn by playing a fun game.
