Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola Fiddle Music Keyboard
I have been teaching private lessons since High School, and have maintained a home studio ever since. I have taught young students of all ages in one-on-one settings in my studio, as well as in classroom settings as a group strings teacher and as an orchestra and general music teacher at a K-8 charter school. I bring with me years of experience in bringing music to life for kindergarteners, teenagers, and everyone in-between (I enjoy teaching adults, too)! Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ Music
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part-time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba
Seeing my students succeed is one of the most gratifying things for me. Success in students can be measured in so many ways, and each individual will have different goals. My job is to match my students where they are at, and try to bring them to the next level. Working with individual students, I like to get the opinion of the student as to what they believe they want to work on, and use that an overlying theme for what we work on, as well as what I recommend. Instruments: Clarinet
My biggest goal in teaching is to help students learn how to enjoy music and approach music from a different perspective. Once a semester when teaching private students, I like to have them pick out their favorite pop song and I'll arrange it for them to play with me in a duet. Often times, when studying to perfect everything it is good to remember why music is fun! But aside from that one example, I like teach students to play their instrument--not let it play them. Instruments: Drums
I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with. Instruments: Violin Viola
I have nearly a decade of private teaching experience as well as teaching in group and in school orchestra settings. While in Austin, Joseph ran a successful teaching studio of over 30 violin and viola students that regularly placed in TMEA All-Region Orchestras, UIL State Solo Ensemble Contest, and were members of the Austin Youth Orchestra. I've also served as an orchestra teacher for Manor High School and Manor New Technical High School where I provided an elevated level of teaching to an underprivileged student base. Read More
