If a student has a weakness, I tend to focus on correcting the problem point and focus before moving on. I believe in consistent practice which fits within the confines of one's schedule. I encourage those ideas in lessons, and I focus on teaching students to play with musicality. For each individual student, I set reasonable goals for them at the end of each lesson. For beginning students, I use the first Essential Element book to introduce the first instrument and theory concepts. Once students have progressed past this book, I use the Tune a Day series along with the accompanying scale book. This book introduces students to solo and duet pieces worthy of a recital performance.
