Instruments: Violin Viola Electric Violin Fiddle
Every time I teach a student, I learn something new about people and my instrument. I end up learning right along with them, and I love it! if you are starting from ground zero, I typically like to start with the Suzuki method books, and learning by ear. Learning good techniques and is of the utmost importance at this stage! Once you as a student are more comfortable with the violin, then I like to branch out and incorporate songs and techniques that you'd like to learn, which can be anything that is within your skill set. My method is simple, teach the student how to enjoy learning music. Every student learns at a different pace and it is my job to show you the steps you need to get the results you want. For children I have a vast amount of musical games that will make them fall in love with their instruments and music in general. For more advance students, I will focus on your weaknesses, learning repertoire and slowly introduce reading and theory in a simple fun way. Read More
Instruments: Piano French Horn
My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate days. As a French Horn teacher, I teach multiple schools in China. As a piano teacher, I coached elementary and middle school students on basic techniques of playing French horn, like articulations, scales, essential etudes, and orchestral repertoire. I coached elementary students on basic piano skills, like Bayer piano introductory course, Czerny Op. 599, Op. 299, Hanon sixty exercises for the piano, Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber, John Thompson's Modern Course for the piano and Sonatina album. For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. Instruments: Trombone Euphonium
My style is very laid back but super informative. I have studied with at least 5 different fantastic teachers that have all taught me how I want to go about teaching my students. By being constructive and kind, I feel as though I see the most progress. In addition I am a huge proponent of singing. I believe that if you can sing the part you can play the part. My method includes a Singing, buzzing and then playing which will help incorporate the ear into every musical thing we do. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar
My teaching experience began on an informal level in my early 20s, as I instructed many fellow band members in guitar and bass guitar on a case-by-case basis when working out our parts in songs. I became the person who wrote cheat sheets for most of my bands over the time Ive been in (many) bands; I loved the fact that my musical ear was enabling me to mentor colleagues. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Keyboard
My experience goes back to High School when I would give casual tutoring sessions to friends. In college I started teaching lessons in theory and composing/songwriting. I like to encourage students to get on a practicing schedule especially for younger students as it helps them get more interested in the instrument. I like to start with modern pop/rock styles to get the student interested in the instrument then mix in Jazz so we can talk about more complex theory and also mix in a little classical so we can talk about technique and form.
