I love teaching because I believe most, if not all, people love music and can learn to love making music. I want it to be fun for them, to keep them interested. I believe that a set of expectations on the student is required to keep them motivated, but I am never upset or disappointed if they don't practice enough. Since I was inspired to play piano by ear after hearing a Mozart piano sonata when I was five, my love of music brought me to many places performing professionaly, whether it's a Dvorak trio, a big band standard, or a Daft Punk cover.  I began my formal training at the Cleveland Institute of Music for eleven years, while also studying violin, percussion, trumpet, and composing along the way.  Beginning by performing as a freelance accompanist, church organist, and teaching piano at Baldwin - Wallace College, I've gone on to play at the University of Connecticut Chamber Music Festival in 2009, and earned my Master's in piano performance in 2010. I began teaching private French horn students in 2011, and I have been teaching music in various ways since then. I have been both a general music and a band teacher, working with students in Preschool through Eighth Grade. With my private students I emphasize regular practice as the best way to improve and keep having fun with an instrument. I also seek out opportunities for my students to perform and attend concerts that may widen their musical horizons. Read More

Every student is different. My experience has prepared me for that. I am encouraging, but also patient. My instruction will be tailored to each individual student's needs, interests, and desires so that they can progress on their own musical journey at their own pace. Most importantly, I want to encourage my students to take their talents out of the practice room and into the world whenever they can. There is a wealth of lessons to help progress the student with fundamentals and gradually moving at a pace that is right for them. Once they have gained the confidence to move on, there is also a second book that follows. For beginner saxophone and clarinet players I tend to use the first book in the series from Standard of Excellence. After those first two books I move them into the Rubank Intermediate Series of books. For saxophonist, and even some clarinetist that would like to learn some jazz I use the Lennie Niehaus Jazz Conception Series. I always try to find what the student would like to learn to play and then guide my teaching from that point. Read More
