My approach to teaching really varies depending on the students specific needs. For absolute beginners, I can tend to follow a more concrete progression, but depending on who the student is, and what they're level of passion may be for learning something specific, the lesson may be highly specific. If the student is interested, I personally like to give them an understanding of some of the theory as they go along, even if they are a beginner because I believe it helps them to see the bigger picture. At times, some exercises are assigned for homework if it was not completed in class during the assigned time. For Piano, I start with warm-ups using simple finger exercises to learn fingering and improve muscles, flexibility and hand dexterity. These are implemented by using the study of scales, varied finger technique exercises from books like Dozen a Day and Hannon and or by rote (demonstrated by teacher and student visually attend and imitate). I've loved piano playing and performance since I attended a piano recital in college. I love to practice, and have developed methods to make practice more efficient and fun. I encourage students to attend recitals and performances whenever possible, since this can provide motivation and familiarity with the piano literature. I encourage students to choose the music they want to play, and don't impose my preferences on them, though classical literature and basic harmonic theory are important.    I've performed numerous times, mostly in informal situations such as church, parties, rest homes, and hotels.
