For Band students I normally use the method used in class or I will use the Ed Suede Band method. I like this method because it starts out very basically and simply and gradually increases in difficulty. Voice students must first pass an Audiation test which is essentially a test of their sense of pitch. From there I begin with vocalizations followed by singing materials. I have composed my own First Studies for Guitar. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated teacher who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2017, I graduated from UTSA with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. I worked closely with Opera San Antonio for several years. Then, in 2024 I graduated from UMKC with a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to sing both with the New York Dramatic Voices as well as touring the United Kingdom with Music Across the Pond. It is very important to me that my students love coming back to me rather than dreading the next lesson. My mom used to always tell me about how her mom made her go to lessons and her teacher was horrible so she quit! I want to be very personable to my students and let them trust that I will do what I need to do in order for them to succeed. Read More

I would begin with whatever book your child's school has provided. This would provide consistency and avoid confusion. I would also work specifically on whatever piece the student is currently working on. I would find it best to find out at what level the student is at before tailoring a more specific program. I have been teaching trumpet since 1992. I began my private studio in Lubbock, Texas while I was attending Texas Tech University. I performed in the Tech band, as well as in a brass quintet made up of myself and local brass musicians from the Lubbock area. I performed many weddings and other functions while in Lubbock. I have been in the DFW are since 2003 and restarted my teaching in 2005 after a two year rest. Read More

Depending on my analysis of a, diagnostic, first lesson, I would assign a method book that is appropriate to the students needs. I have worked with many different method books, but the Essential Elements books are valuable because of the audio CD that is included with the books. The CD allows the student to play along with a recorded instrument which is valuable for beginningstudents when they practice at home away from the instructor. Read More
