I am a graduate of Texas Tech University. I began teaching privately in 1985 on the Lubbock ISD Music Tutorial Program. I went into the schools and taught students privately during class hours. I taught Tuba and Baritone Horn. In 1989 I began teaching with Lubbock Parks and Recreation in the community centers. This was more generalized. I taught Band Instruments, Voice, Guitar, Music Theory, Beginner Piano, Beginner Strings. What I consider to be my crown achievement is hearing from parents who told me that the overall academic performance of their children had improved since they began taking lessons from me. Read More

It is very important to me that my students love coming back to me rather than dreading the next lesson. My mom used to always tell me about how her mom made her go to lessons and her teacher was horrible so she quit! I want to be very personable to my students and let them trust that I will do what I need to do in order for them to succeed. Read More

Every student is different, so my teaching approach is rarely identical from student to student. Technical training progresses as a student develops motivation through his or her practice habits. I try to encourage practice through journal entry and self-accountability. I also try to make a student's home practice a little more exciting by setting goals and explaining what will be accomplished through achieving these short-term goals. Introducing new concepts while perfecting basic technique is how I try to captivate a student's attention and excitement for music. Read More

I have been teaching trumpet since 1992. I began my private studio in Lubbock, Texas while I was attending Texas Tech University. I performed in the Tech band, as well as in a brass quintet made up of myself and local brass musicians from the Lubbock area. I performed many weddings and other functions while in Lubbock. I have been in the DFW are since 2003 and restarted my teaching in 2005 after a two year rest. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For both voice and piano students, the first half of lesson will be focused on technique and the second half of lesson will be focused on repertoire. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
Practice makes perfect. I believe the basics are the most important part to any education including a musical one. Just as a building requires a solid foundation before it can rise to the sky so too do students need to master fundamentals before moving on to the more challenging aspects of their instruments. I mastering the saxophone I would focus on basics such as fingering, scales, posture, breathing technique, rhythm and embouchure. Read More
