I introduce scales early in lessons. I not only teach traditional scale performance, I teach the mathematical and emotional significance of scales and intervals. Asa student's proficiency progresses, I introduce solo repertoire and encourage recording of solos through Smart Music software. This becomes a milestone ina student's development, as it rekindles interest through technology and creates excitement about professional musicianship. I have been playing saxophone for more than 20 years. I was awarded multiple scholarships at South Plains College to play in their Symphonic and Jazz Bands. I have many years of experience playing at in my church choir as well. As a result of which I have played professionally at numerous weddings and other similar events. I love teaching students privately one on one. My youngest student was 4; a Piano student. She was from a Russian family and didn’t speak a word of English. Teaching her was a joint effort between myself and the girl’s mother who did speak English; a very interesting experience. My oldest student was 86; a Guitar student. He had studied previously with another instructor and loved to play. I focused on material that would not only improve his abilities but provide him with something that he could play for people in his social groups. Read More
