I always like to know what is the goal of each of my students. What style or genre they like as well as if they are aiming to be a solo performer or part of a band or ensemble. I like to start students on method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this will teach students basic music theory as well as how to read on a staff. The piano needs to be praticed every day if the student wants to progress! For Children I teach pop and classical piano, where as adults I try to find out why they want to play and what style of music they would like to play.
