Hello! My name is Kathryn and I am currently a Senior at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire studying Vocal Performance. I have been taking private voice lessons for 5 years of my own, and will be graduating this coming Fall 2020 with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance. Shortly thereafter, I'm attending Graduate School to pursue a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance. I have taught multiple beginning flute and voice students throughout my college career, as well as assisting the music students at Rolling Hills Elementary School in Mukwonago with their head start program. I wish to continue on into graduate school for Music Therapy, and for this reason, I also have experience working with both adolescence and adults that have developmental disabilities. For young and beginning students, I focus intently on proper technique (holding of sticks, timing, 4-way coordination, etc.) to ensure a proper foundation for success. For older and experienced students, I look to work on a wide range of styles to help the student understand the nuances of performance techniques and promote an understanding of how interconnected various performance styles are. My professional experience includes assisting piano professors to teach undergraduate students of different abilities, teaching skills that range from basic scales to classical overtures to modern jazz. I also teach beginners how to read sheet music, and communicate with younger students’ parents to make sure they know how the students are progressing. My teaching experience dates back to my time in high school, as I taught group guitar lessons with the Franklin Community Education and Recreation Department as well as private guitar lessons from 2011 to 2013. In both of those environments, I typically taught children ages 6 to 12, most of whom were beginners on their instrument. The method book is to instill a variety of fundamental skills while the manuscript (or materials saved and shared in google drive) is used to be a fun way of focussing and developing each student's individual trajectory.
