Fun. Music is fun. Learning music should be fun. My style of teaching is to take what I find fun about playing music and introduce it to my students in gradual easy to understand steps. I do my best at teaching my students to read, write and create music. I also include many fun exercises to achieve finger dexterity. For my more advanced students I will take them to local open mic nights to help grow their confidence. Read More

I like to teach to the interests and ability levels of my students. I believe in keeping lessons light and fun, while maintaining a strong emphasis on guiding my students toward becoming musically literate. A typical lesson for a younger student may include board games and coloring pages in addition to traditional "on instrument" time. I also strive to integrate technology in to my lessons, whether by using iOS apps as teaching supplements, or by monitoring home practice through a "flipped" classroom approach. Read More
Instruments: Voice
There are two major philosophies I've uncovered when teaching lessons. 1. The use of descending lines to erase the "break" in ones voice. Early while studying, myself, I was taught to sing ascending, trying to maintain the same sound - this is defeating. Rather, bringing the top down is the "way to go." 2. My teaching style is relaxed and informal. I like to have a connection with my students and I usually achieve that through good sense of humor, simplicity and precision in the delivery of information and accuracy in the examples used to enhance the explanations. What you can expect as my student is a fun lesson, useful information, a lot of playing and feeling motivated to study until we meet on a next time. Read More
Instruments: Piano
Playing the piano has been a lifelong passion for me and I am excited for the opportunity to pass on my love and skill for music to anyone who wishes to engage in this rewarding art form. Although I have been involved in several styles of music over my career; gospel, jazz, blues, contemporary Christian, and classical, I have spent most of my life as a church musician. Most recently, I was the worship pastor for a medium sized church in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Read More

My students can expect a fun and laid back learning experience. The initial phases will consist of really getting to know YOU and exploring your interest and personal goals as a drummer. Whether you are just starting out, looking to improve existing skills, or aspiring to become a professional musician, together we can build the foundation required to achieve your goals. I find it very important to learn the traditional rhythms and styles in every genre of music, then learn how to minipulate and break those musical rules and combine different aspects together to make something new and exciting.
