My methodologies for teaching will vary based on different factors such as age and level of musical knowledge. The number one thing I try and do for my students is make sure they have FUN and ENJOY the process of learning. I do like to use established books that focus on the fundamentals of music such as the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Books. Literature like that is very informative, but also a bit clinical at times, so I always like to find out what my students want to play and tailor lessons towards their specific goals. Read More

I'm a deeply passionate, wholly enveloped musician who lives for the love of music. I absolutely love teaching others, however my golden strength is my ability to read my students from a lifelongs-experienced side, while fully understanding their difficulties to the most finite degree, no matter how frustrating and daunting the art of music can be- and teaching in the direction THEY wish. Creating music fueled by passion and the desire to express the otherwise ineffable emotions is the most powerfully freeing experience I think anyone can have, and it's my joy to enable others to enjoy it Read More

My name is Phillip, and I'm a passionate musician with a love for teaching. I started playing guitar when I was in 6th grade of middle school, and started taking lessons, and grew with experience from there. I went to college to study business and music, while also still taking lessons by my favorite instructor, Gary Rhum from Rhum Academy of Music, which is also where my teaching began. I volunteered to help with the Academy with upkeep, as well as teaching and instructing children in guitar. Read More

I take extreme care in making sure the student is first and foremost having fun. I make sure the student fully understands everything that is expected of them, and will instill a strong sense pride in my students success. I adapt to the students speed and believe genuine encouragement will get the best results out of them at all times. I also like to involve the family members in the lessons as well, sometimes with the student giving them a living room concert, or as I have been able to do in the past, a duet with the student parent. I am a motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my passion for music. I studied at The Center of Music, in Virginia Beach, Va. Playing the piano has been one the most fulfilling accomplishments of my life. I've had the opportunity to work with song writers and compose music for them and accompany singers during their performances. Music is a gift that I love sharing with my students and my goal is to help my students meet their musical goals, one lesson at a time. Read More

I believe that in the world of music, a teacher's job tends to consist more of providing resources and an extra set of ears instead of actually teaching. My lessons typically consist of a 1-to-1 ratio, where I will be playing as much as the student I am working with. I believe that students need to HEAR how something is supposed to be played in order for them to be the most successful. Read More
Instruments: Voice
Each student is different. My teaching style depends on the need of the student. However, generally, I will start with technical exercises to help the student work on a particular skill that can be used in a variety of songs (ex. tone production, vowels, diction). Then the next part of the lesson would be focused on a particular song. I also am happy to work on music theory and music literacy skills with students. Read More
