I have had five years of music teaching experience and I am interested in the music education substitute position. I have had 11 years of performance experience in musical and opera productions as well as singing lead and playing keyboard in bands and ensembles. I have a passion for music and a desire to help youth, using music as the bridging vessel. No student walks into a school being a blank slate, so it is important to consider their backgrounds, musical and cultural, when finding teaching approaches and building upon the knowledge they have already acquired. Instruments: Piano
I am passionate about teaching the piano, an instrument that I love. I connect well with students and adapt my teaching style to their learning preference. I have been playing the piano for over 30 years. I also play the keyboard. I am able to teach both piano and keyboard; learning the piano and the keyboard is essentially the same, it just requires a different touch and the keyboard can create more sounds. Read More

First and foremost, my number one goal is to help my students achieve their goals - always! I believe that in order for anyone to make progress in anything, there must first be a (decently) strong foundation on which to build upon. What that means in terms of an overall application towards the drums (and percussion instruments in general) is that I believe having a strong understanding and foundation in reading music and general hand/feet technique (i.e. how to hold the sticks) should be developed in order to, for example, properly facilitate around the drum kit, regardless of genre and/or style. I make sure all of my students have a solid foundation in technique and rythm with Progressive Step to Syncopation for the Modern Drummer by Ted Reed, Stick Contro by George Lawrence Stone, and then try to tailor the lessons to the students specific needs. I use standard method books based on the students goals along with personal exercises and techniques to help supplement the development of the focused area of study the student wishes to pursue. I started teaching in high school, with my very own private students, and coached non-music major ensembles during my undergraduate degree in addition to receiving pedagogy training. As many performers do, I began as a reluctant teacher, but quickly realized that teaching is extremely rewarding and fun! I make sure that the students are enjoying the lessons while pushing them to play as well as they can. I find it difficult to suppress my passion for my instrument and for music, and I think that this rubs off on my students. Read More
