Being familiar with nearly every genre of music, I’m capable of teaching any style the student is interested in from movie scores, to broadway show tunes, to gospel, and modern, etc. Of course my favorite style and the one I recommend is the classical curriculum which I usually try to implement with each student as it has shown the best results in the past with students of all ages. With the beginning students I use Alfred and Bastien piano instructional books. Also, the children simultaneously learn to read notes and understand music notation. In my teaching method the goal is to combine high level of technique with musicality and individual interpretation. I have over 15 years of experience teaching guitar and voice to students from 4 – 73 years old. During the last two years I began teaching ukulele to children as young as 4years old. I am currently teaching mostly school age children, adolescents and adults. As a music therapist I have used guitar lessons as a therapeutic intervention to improve cognitive functioning in older adults.
