Instruments: Voice
I like to start by exploring where the student is at in their musical education and what they are looking to study in private lessons. From there, we build the lesson around them! Once we’ve established where to begin, I’ll ask the student to choose a piece they’d like to perform and I’ll assign them a piece of my own choice as well. For my classical students I'll typically start with art song repertoire and for musical theatre I'll choose a classic piece. Read More

Music is my passion, the guitar is my instrument. I taught myself through books, videos, mentors, loop pedals, HOURS and HOURS of practice, and 8+ years of live performance and improvisation throughout the 12+ years of being a guitarist. Because I learned on my own, I remember the speed bumps and learning curves in the beginning. With no formal training to fall back on, I learned to use my ear very well and after the basic satisfaction of learning some of my favorite riffs, decided to seriously learn how and why it all worked. I like to use a common sense approach with a foundation in music theory to develop the whole musician. I will encourage note reading but will give harmonic context for the singer or keyboardist looking to improve versatility. Read More

I am a dedicated and motivated instructor with over 10 years of public school and private experience in Texas, Massachusetts, and Florida. I graduated from SMU's Meadows School of the Arts (Dallas, TX) with degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. As a performer, I have substituted with the Dallas Wind Symphony, performed with MIT's Balinese Gamelan, Gamelan Galak-Tika, and played bansuri (Indian flute) with my husband on tabla at various Indian weddings and venues. Faber and Faber: The books by Nancy and Randall Faber are a popular and heavily promoted piano "method" with many adherents. The Faber and Faber beginning books can serve a teacher well who needs a pre-programmed series of books to follow as a starter for their teaching. Each page of the books embodies delightful graphics and is cross-referenced to other books in the series along the outer edge of each page. Read More

I've found the best way to teach is to cater to each student's interest. While early or beginning players may require some fundamental grunt work, there is always a way to assure that it's fun too. Earlier students would need to start learning the basics: rhythm, learning to read, developing technique through scales etc. of which there are many methods. As students mature, I feel the Suzuki method for aspiring classical students is the best route (there are multiple books in this series) along with some other extensive and more challenging works. For beginning students I combine solfege, breathing exercises and methods that fits the student's goals. Once the students not only progress, but also tailor the path that want to follow, I will adjust every single aspect to help you get to your goals in a smart way. The most important thing is to always find ways to have fun and always avoid frustration and avoid to create bad habits that could be developed with careless instruction. Read More
