Hello future students! I much enjoy sharing my experience as a creative musician to my students whether they are 5 or 55, beginner or advanced. I am a patient teacher and do my best to encourage each student to find themselves as unique learners (musicians) unto themselves. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2002 with a BA focus on Music Composition. While recently living in NYC, I formed a 12-member saxophone orchestra, composed and recorded two symphonies, performed and recorded with the late Glenn Branca's 100 Guitar Ensemble, and provided live Sound Design for renowned poetess Anne Carson. I have been teaching for 3 years independently and through other academies throughout my 10 years of experience. My goal with teaching is to get people on a regular routine of practicing their instrument and help people find what they like in efforts to help them pursue it later in life while having fun in the process. I typically spend some time getting to know the student, understand their desires and passions for music, and their own personal style. When I understand that I can gauge where the lessons should go. I do not provide a strict curriculum. Instead, I form lessons based on student's needs as I feel this is more effective and more personalized. Things that we may explore include; warm-ups, posture, breathing techniques, tongue twisters, learning to read notation, and rhythm. I prided myself on not only teaching the basics of singing but how the body works in conjunction with it. I strive for my students to not only know 'how' but also 'why'. Read More

I choose music that will help students in many different areas. Students need some music that will help them work on fundamentals: long tones, slurs, articulations, and scales. Students also need to play music they enjoy. All of my students, in addition to the fundamentals of good playing, bring in music that is enjoyable to play and that they like. I base my materials depending on who my student is, what level they are at, their interests, and their goals.  We will focus on building a proper foundation and every aspect of music making including posture, embouchure, breath support, articulation, phrasing, intonation, performances, and more.  Every student will have lessons directly tailored toward their needs.
