I do not punish a student for incomplete homework, however I stress that the homework I assign is to help them on their musical journey. My ultimate goal in teaching music students is to develop players who are intrinsically motivated. This is a long-term process which I enjoy guiding. I'm very interested in the psychology of motivation for each individual student, realizing that what "works" with one student may not be effective with another.
