My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 25 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My teaching style is based around the phrase of I want to teach you how to fish, not just have you pay for fish. I don't want to be your fishmonger. I want to give you the tools & fulfill my role to prepare you to be the best drummer you can be. My beliefs a student comes with ideas and goals in regards to their respective instrument or task, and a teacher supposed to help them express those ideas or help them accomplish what they want to do yet also refine technique and their approach to the instrument. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop and hone their skills! I am extremely hands on and I listen very intently during my sessions. I have a great "ear" which is my best asset. I encourage each student to progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by maintaining a stress free environment. My methods vary greatly depending on the student's goals and experience. Through the first few years of study, an emphasis on the fundamentals of music and instrumental skills is required. This typically takes the form of a beginning method book. For students beyond this phase of study, advanced technique work takes the form of scale, chord, and interval studies. Im a singer and vocal instructor that loves what she does. I started singing when I was 5 years old, at 9 I started recording audio covers of songs I liked. I was always passionate about music and singing. In 2020 I graduated from college of arts. I teach and sing pop, jazz, soul, blues. I have participated in various competitions and festivals. Consistent practice is a must for me! Even if it's 20 - 30 minutes a day, every bit of practice helps and I'm a strong believer in the idea that repetition is the key to success. I want my students to do whatever they can to continue building on their technique whether it's NYSSMA, auditions, recitals, shows in and out-of-school you name it I encourage it!
